Sprayer Maintenance Guide

The maintenance of a sprayer is important.  If you want to keep your sprayer working at its optimum level, avoid breakdowns, and have the sprayer working when you need it, then it is worth the very small amount of time to ensure it is cared for.

It doesn’t matter if you only use the sprayer a few times a year, or if it is in almost constant use; the equipment is an investment worth of caring maintenance.

 

Before you spray: 

Before you even fill your sprayer, a short visual check can eliminate the chance of unanticipated leaks:

·       Check the hose for any cuts or splits, make sure it is still supple, and that its connections are still secure.

·       If the sprayer has a tank filter, then make sure it is clean and not blocked.

·       Is the tank damaged?  The tanks for our sprayers are robust and will handle a lot of heavy handling. However, if they have been dropped, something dropped onto it, or have been used to store a liquid, then damage can occur.

·       Is the sprayer nozzle blocked? If you are unsure then they can easily be removed and washed.

·       Are all connectors tight, and is there any visible damage to the spray gun and lance?

·       If you see any damage or are unsure if a part is damaged, we recommend using the sprayer with just water and at a low pressure (1 bar) to check that the unit is safe and working well.  Check that there aren’t any leaks of liquid or air.

 

During your spraying: 

You can’t really undertake actual maintenance whilst using the sprayer but there are a few things you can avoid that can cause issues:

·       Don’t overfill your sprayer.

·       Ensure you are using clean liquid. If the sprayer tank has a filter, then ensure you are using it, as this will stop items entering the tank that could cause blockages.

·       Use the sprayer as directed by the manufacturer: only spray liquids for which your sprayer is suited.  Failure to do this can cause damage to the insides of your sprayer or to the spray nozzle.

·       Don’t be rough. Don’t drop the sprayer, or throw the sprayer, and use the shoulder straps to carry the tank.

 

After spraying: 

This is the most important time to undertake a few small steps that will ensure your sprayer is ready to work for you the next time you need it:

·       Empty the tank contents. The tank should not be used to store liquids, and all unused liquids should be stores in an appropriate container.

·       Spray clean water followed by a cleaning solution to ensure that the tank, hose, lance, and spray nozzles are clean.

·       Leave the tank lid off, remove the hose and spray gun to allow all components to dry.  This is especially important the longer that the sprayer is unused. Storing the sprayer wet can cause blockages and weakened areas.

·       Remove the spray nozzle and wash it in clean water.

·       Do any moving parts require the application of oil or grease?    

 

All these points will help you to maintain your sprayer and none of them cost too much time nor money.  However, the most often overlooked way of maintaining your sprayer is to read the User Manual that is supplied with your sprayer, this gives you information about your sprayer, the best way to use it, what it shouldn’t be used for, and general maintenance tips.
